The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) Kigamboni Region has provided education on the use of clean electric cooking energy to parents and teachers at Malaika Primary School, as part of government efforts to promote clean cooking solutions.
The awareness campaign was conducted on January 13, 2026, during the school's official reopening day popularly known as Back to School, which brought together parents, teachers, and school management.
Speaking during the event, Ms. Tumaini Mahwaya, TANESCO Kigamboni Regional Public Relations and Customer Service Officer, said the initiative aimed to equip parents and teachers with knowledge on the benefits of using electricity for cooking, citing safety, affordability, and environmental protection as key advantages.
She noted that promoting electric cooking aligns with national strategies to reduce reliance on unsafe and environmentally harmful energy sources.
To support the practical implementation of clean electric cooking in learning institutions, TANESCO donated a 15-kilogram electric pressure cooker to the school to enhance food preparation services.
The Head Teacher of Malaika Primary School, Mr. Ahmed Abdallah Fataki, welcomed the support and said the donated stove would help the school reduce dependence on unsafe cooking energy.
He added that the initiative would improve food services for pets while contributing to environmental conservation.
Parents who attended the event showed strong interest in visiting the TANESCO exhibition stand, where they received further education on clean cooking energy. Many pledged to adopt electric cooking in their households to safeguard health and protect the environment.
