Uganda's Electoral Commission continues to receive results from various polling stations following Thursday's general election, with preliminary figures indicating that incumbent President Yoweri Museveni is leading.

According to early results announced so far, Museveni has secured 76.25 percent of the votes counted, based on tallies from nearly half of the polling stations nationwide.

Opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, is currently in second place with 19.85 percent, while the remaining votes are shared among six other candidates.

Speaking to journalists after casting his vote on Thursday, President Museveni said he expected to win with 80 percent of the vote, “if there is no rigging.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, said voting generally proceeded well across the country, despite some challenges. He acknowledged technical problems in certain areas, including the failure of voting machines, which forced officials to revert to manual voting procedures.

However, opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi has alleged that the election was marred by widespread irregularities.

“There are reports everywhere of ballot boxes being stuffed,” said Kyagulanyi, who is the presidential candidate of the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), in a statement posted on social media. He did not provide evidence to support the claims.

The Electoral Commission has not yet issued any official response regarding the accusation of electoral fraud, nor has it commented on Kyagulanyi's claims that many of his party's polling agents and coordinators were allegedly abducted or expelled from polling stations.

Official results of the election are expected to be announced within 48 hours after the conclusion of the voting process.
